Most Wanted in Beauty- September

Hi everyone! Just a quick little post on this Tuesday evening! As I mentioned on my Sunday Week in Review post, I am heading out of town to New Jersey to see my family this weekend which also means the opportunity for a little shopping trip šŸ˜€  I live about two hours away from the closest full-sized Sephora, so taking a trip to a “nice” mall is an exciting adventure…and I have to come armed with a plan or else I get distracted by all of the pretty displays! Here are the products I want to check out while I am at Sephora , Nordstom, and all the other fun stores this weekend:

Skincare: My skin has been responding really well to Alpha Hydroxy Acids recently and I feel ready to up the ante. Both Sunday Riley’s Good Genes and Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum have awesome reviews but I will definitely want to get samples of each and see which one I like better and make sure that my skin doesn’t respond poorly since they are both pricey products.

Foundation: So the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is insanely hyped up as a foundation that has a gorgeous skin-like finish and also actually lasts– I’m definitely interested in trying out a sample of this one! Anastasia Beverley Hills also just released their new line of stick foundations which are designed for amore combination skin type, so I would love to see if I can find a color match and see how it feels. The shade range looks amazing, plus it is $25 which is pretty good for Sephora-range foundations.

Contour: I do not own a single contour product–I tried NYX Taupe for a while but it was too red toned and ended up getting destashed awhile ago. I mean, I’m not ready to go all contour crazy or anything, but I would love the option to be able to define my cheekbones a little more (especially with my new haircut). I’m not really a fan of the idea of purchasing an entire palette that includes colors I won’t use and highlight shades that are too dark…so looking at single products, Anastasia Beverly Hills just came out with individual contour sticks with their new foundation line (I’m eyeing the shade Fawn). I’m also interested in checking out the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder— I just need to figure out if I need the light or the medium shade. What do you guys recommend, cream or powder contour products?

Blush: Okay, so I’m not sure if I need a new blush…but I would love a more pink-toned and peach-toned blush eventually. The Marc Jacobs Air Flash blushes are just incredible to look at…plus I’ve been loving what I’ve been seeing about this whole blush draping/contouring trend. As far as the Hourglass Ambient Blush goes, I just think this peach with a bit of sheen would be beautiful for a natural flushed look. I will definitely have to investigate in person to make sure it is not too glittery though.

Perfume: I am a floral perfume lover, especially with rose notes. As we move into fall, I am ready to abandon the citrus-y notes and add in some more complex and deep fragrances…I think the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose might do the trick. As far as Nest’s Dahlia and Vines, I’m going to admit that it is 90% the packaging that attracted me– then I saw the notes and knew I had to try it. With perfumes, I always have to get samples because I like to see how things evolve on my skin and wear a few times. I love that both of these come in rollerballs though! With medical school, I really only wear perfume on the weekends so it doesn’t make sense to get full sized bottles.

Random: This is totally unnecessary, but I really love the way the “nude” Beauty Blender looks…I mean imagine, those annoying foundation stains never bugging you! Plus, I can always use a spare.

Notably absent from the list is lip products since I own way too many as is (though I had to seriously talk myself out of the Kat von D Project Chimps— I think it is too similar to other lipsticks that I own), mascara (since I have a holy grail at the moment), and eyeshadow (because I’m holding out for holiday releases).

I’m excited to go in, armed with my gift card and a plan, and sample and swatch a ton of things and maybe get one or two things too šŸ™‚  Have you tried any of these products? Is there anything else that I should definitely check out while I am there?

I hope you all have an awesome Labor Day Weekend!

  1. Good Genes is a holy grail for me….it doesn’t smell the greatest, but once I got past that, it’s one product I saw results from quickly. I’m on my third bottle (and I almost never repurchase!)

  2. I REALLY love the Bobbi Brown stick foundation. The formula is so creamy and the coverage is buildable, which makes it so versatile. Let us know what you think of the ABH contour sticks!
